About

One of the main goals of Mako Scanlations is to give some love to neglected manga series. In some cases, weeks or even months will pass before a group releases a new chapter even when RAWs are readily available. In other cases, depending on the popularity of the series, the pace at which a group releases chapters will not seem reasonable in our eyes. Though there are some series we simply enjoy working on regardless of the situation.

With this mindset however, we will undoubtedly come across scanlating groups and their groupies who will flame us and cry about “stealing their series” (Yes, this has happened to us before.) You don’t see the million groups scanlating Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece bickering with eachother over this, do you? Actually, they did…

Addressing the whiners -> First of all, you do not own these works, and you should be scanlating chapters of manga to get them out there for the fans. Those who take issue with having “their series stolen” are most likely scanlating simply to garner attention/’fame’. Face it, scanlating is nothing compared to the work of those involved in the creation of the actual manga, so you’re not special for doing what you do. You should be happy simply with the fact that people will be able to read and enjoy whatever manga it is that you release in English (or whatever language). If there is an issue with quality, then either way, fans will be able to notice and make their own decision about which groups to follow, so complaining about this point is a waste of time as well.

If we were to fall behind on releasing chapters of a series, which is inevitable, we encourage other groups to take up the project themselves if they can do it faster. This way, fans get what they want. We have no respect for groups who whine when others release the same series they are working on and those who stamp their watermarks all over the pages of a release.

These are our views and what we’re all about – either you love us because you’re a fan of manga, or you hate us because you believe scanlators should be put up on a pedestal and are entitled to something they don’t even create. Sorry if this is sounded more like a rant than an About page.

Also, EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO USE OUR SCANS FOR WHATEVER PURPOSE!

Awesome ideal! I’d like to the same but I don’t have the time or the skill to do it!…

You just gained my respect.

Keep it up and, hopefully, may you not stray from your ideals.

Big up to mako scans! Your releases are awesome, I am a big SS fan, I used to watch it every Wednesday morning on TV as a child in France. Your vision is truly altruist and this is the way to go.
I already have recommended you to my friends.
Carry on the good work, and let me know if you need any help. I can do a bit of French translation if you are interested in language diversity (I will have to take from the English version though, since my Japanese is almost inexistant)

What a very well thought out statement. You don’t mind people selling your work, even as their own?

16. makoscans - June 8, 2011

LOL… this guy…

For me, I don’t really care if anyone makes money off the scanlations I have personally worked on. The only thing I care about is that as many fans as possible can read and enjoy the releases. The works aren’t my intellectual property, and I don’t own them.

So I agree with you. It is a very well thought out and honest statement. :)

I have a question: Do you take suggestions? I really love the series Dolls but the group scanlating it is inactive since 2010. It would be really great if someone tookmit over …
